10 more Indian properties in pipeline for Wyndham
Wyndham Hotel Group has announced a pipeline for 10 more hotels in India, all expected to be open by 2017.
The new properties will be located nationwide in Gurgaon, Darjeeling, Greater Noida, Jaisalmer, Pali, Loneer, Dharmapuri, Bengaluru, Chennai and Trivandrum.
This latest development will focus on mid-market brands with debuts for Planet Hollywood and Ramada Encore, along with the expansion of Howard Johnson and Days Inn brands.
The expansion will add another 1,000 rooms to their India inventory.
The group currently operates 24 hotels in the country with another 3,500 rooms already under development.
Commenting on the mid-market strategy, Deepika Arora, Wyndham regional vice president, Indian Ocean, said: "The mid-scale market is looking up after facing a prolonged period of financial instability and the hospitality segment is looking bullish with the new government and the list of incentives it has promised to provide to investors."
"Additionally, the commercial returns are faster in the mid-market level in India, and we’re venturing mainly to capitalise on this niche segment."
Wyndham also sees more value and better prospects in the Indian market compared to China.
"As a growth market, India is ahead of China and we are dedicated to this market like any other Asian market," said Geoff Ballotti, Wyndham president and CEO.
