24-hour bus strike at Heathrow
Travellers heading for Heathrow airport today are warned that a 24-hour strike by bus drivers could cause some disruption. According to the BBC News website, the drivers, who are employed by Menzies Aviation, have taken industrial action over a pay demand. Some 73 workers, who are members of the T&G union, operate the Connect2work bus system at the airport, moving thousands of airport staff around the facility. The strike reportedly started at 4am this morning and will run for 24 hours. Kevin Hall, of the T&G, is quoted as saying: “These drivers are vital to keeping one of Europe’s biggest airports working.” The striking workers are reportedly demanding a 5.4 per cent increase to their current wage of £8.12 per hour.
