$4.6m For 27 Projects To Boost Tourism Around Australia
The Federal Government yesterday a boost to tourism of announcing that 27 innovative tourism projects have been offered $4.6 million of Australian Government funding.
Tourism Minister Fran Bailey announced the funding under the fourth round of the Australian Government’s, Australian Tourism Development Program, which supports innovative and regional tourism projects.
Fran Bailey said the projects will enhance tourism experiences and help to attract more big-spending domestic and international visitors to the regions.
“Every additional tourism dollar we attract to our regions creates more jobs for Australians,” Fran Bailey said.
“Tourism is an $81 billion industry, creating jobs for half a million Australians and earning $20.5 billion in exports each year. Last year, overseas visitors poured an extra $1.8 billion into our economy.”
In the latest funding, Geelong Otway Tourism Inc will receive funding of $380,200 to highlight the Great Ocean Road’s “green image”.
“The Great Ocean Road drive is one our finest tourism attractions, offering fantastic experiences along the winding coastal road,” Fran Bailey said.
“It is more than 300km long taking in some of Australia’s most scenic spots, including the world-famous Twelve Apostles.”
Since the inception of the ATDP in 2004, 129 projects worth more than $21.6 million have been funded.
Also funded in round four were:
** Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation — $100,000 to develop a tourist facility near Bulli Tops encompassing the history and culture of the indigenous people in the region.
** Anglers Alliance, in Tasmania — $332,800, to enhance the fishing and tourism experience on the Apple Isle.
