A heart-warming story for Valentine’s Day

Thursday, 13 Feb, 2014 0

TravelMole couldn’t ignore all of the Valentine’s Day-inspired media releases we receive at this time of year.

So, to prove we’re not a totally unromantic lot in the Mole’s burrow, here’s a heart-warming story about flowers.

LAN Airlines Cargo and its affiliates will transport more than 15 million bouquets of flowers all over the world during the four week flower rush that leads up to Valentine’s Day – the peak season for flower exports.

The company moves flowers produced in Colombia and Ecuador at this time of year, representing around 9,400 tonnes.

The main varieties transported are red roses (more than 60%, tripling in demand during Valentine’s Day), carnations, dahlias and chrysanthemums.

The main destinations of these flights are the United States and the Netherlands.

Happy Valentine’s Day on the 14th.
