A romantic Qantas story – yes, there is such a thing!
With all the rumour and speculation surrounding Qantas at the moment and being such a romantic softie, The Mole thought you would like to hear about a really nice, romantic story.
Go back 30 years ago to Sydney and picture a butcher called Peter and a customer called Dianne, who also happened to be next door neighbours, happily getting on with their respective lives, not realising that later in life they would get to know each other again and much better.
Imagine also another customer of Peter the butcher, called Diane, this time with one “n”, whose husband also happened to have been the paper boy delivering papers to Peter the Butcher.
So the scene is set – are you still with me?
So, during the ensuing 30 years, two divorces take place, one for Peter the Butcher and one for Dianne with two “n’s” and then Peter becoming a flight attendant with Qantas, Dianne working in an administration job and their good mutual friend Diane also working for Qantas as a flight attendant!
The scene moves forward, with 10 years ago Peter inviting neighbour Dianne to a ball and as Dianne said today when The Mole happened to bump into Peter, Dianne and Diane, all on a Qantas flight between Sydney and Darwin, “things just clicked and that was that – we fell in love”!
The reason that I am telling you this really romantic story is that QF123 between Sydney and Darwin on Wednesday this week was Peter’s last flight for Qantas after 21 years service.
Not only that, their love has stood the test of time but Peter and Dianne are getting married in January and to celebrate Peter’s “retirement (he looked too young to retire to me!) Dianne joined Peter on his last flight and there’s even more, their long standing friend Diane was also working the same flight with Peter.
What a great story and I am sure all TravelMolers join with me in wishing Peter and Dianne a very happy future.
