A timely stay in Singapore
Little things can mean a lot during a hotel stay. Take the alarm clock at the ParkRoyal on Pickering in Singapore. It’s the old fashioned sort. With a large face, big hands and simple settings.
As a bit of a tech twerp, I’d take one of those alarm clocks any time over a digital clock that has you lying awake all night wondering whether it has been set properly to wake you in time for that early morning flight.
And once that old-fashioned alarm clock has woken you, there are other perks at the ParkRoyal on Pickering. Such as the espresso coffee maker with a range of coffee pods, and some fancy French infusion tea bags.
And where do you put those teabags when you’ve finished with them? The ParkRoyal has a solution for that too: separate bins for rubbish and recycled materials.
The ParkRoyal makes its ‘green’ credentials very obvious: its living wall gardens and lushly planted terraces contribute significantly to Singapore garden city reputation.
The big picture at the ParkRoyal on Pickering is the view from the huge junior suite windows. Lie in bed, or lie in the bath and you can take in the Singapore skyline across Hong Lim Park to Chinatown and Marina Bay.

Workspace is another plus. There are connection slots for USB, HDMI and Audio/PC and enough electrical sockets to ensure that travellers don’t have to crawl around the room on their knees seeking sockets for their various mobile devices.
There is also an electrical socket in the room safe, allowing you to keep a laptop or other mobile device both secure and charged.
Location is good too. The bars and restaurants of Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are minutes away, as is the CBD and MTR stations.
For those seeking to upgrade, the Orchid Club offers complimentary champagne breakfasts, evening cocktails, and priority check-ins.
Overall, as one of Singapore’s newest hotels, the ParkRoyal on Pickering is a timely addition to the city’s premium hotel stock.
And so, too, is the alarm clock.
