A4A predicts a record spring break season with 150 million travelers
Trade group Airlines for America expects a record number of fliers will jet off for some spring break shenanigans this year.
US based airlines are expected to carry an overall total of 150.7 million passengers, which represents a 4% year over year increase, according to A4A predictions.
That works out at roughly 2.47 million people a day will fly from March 1 to April 30.
As usual, it cites low airfares brought on by increased competition, and a robust economy.
"An expanding economy, employment gains and surging household net worth are also contributing to the growth in demand for air travel," said John Heimlich, A4A’s chief economist.
To cover the expected peaks during this period, including US college spring breaks, Easter and Passover, airlines are adding more than 100,000 extra seats a day.
"Travelers are taking to the skies this spring in record numbers, thanks to persistently low fares, unsurpassed levels of investment in the product, and increasing competition," Heimlich added.
