A4A predicts this summer will be busiest ever at airports

Monday, 25 May, 2018 0

Trade group Airlines for America is projecting another busy summer travel season ahead, with an all-time high of 246.1 million passengers.

That translates to an average of 2.68 million fliers per day on US airlines from June 1 through August 31, 2018.

That is a year-over-year increase of 3.7%.

A4A is again touting ‘historically low airfares,’ as well as enhanced in-flight amenities and modern tech throughout the flight experience.

It says US carriers are adding an extra 116,000 seats per day to handle the estimated 96,000 additional daily passengers expected to fly this summer.

US airlines posted mostly positive Q1 performance data but rising fuel prices will likely lead to higher fares by the fall, airline CEOs have warned.

Operating expenses grew at a faster rate than year-over-year growth in revenues for the nine publicly traded U.S. passenger airlines, A4A said.
