Abercrombie and Kent cancels Cuba tours
Luxury operator Abercrombie and Kent has cancelled Cuba tours in 2015, citing ‘regulatory reasons’.
The operator’s director of marketing Annabel Tremaine confirmed that customers have been told their holidays have been cancelled and said less than 16 bookings were affected.
She refused to disclose the regulatory reasons, saying these were confidential to A&K.
"Any clients affected by this decision have been contacted and arrangements put in place to the satisfaction of our clients," she said.
Cuba no longer features as a destination on the UK website, but does still appear on the operator’s US website, www.abercrombiekent.com, which is open to a global customer base.
The US website offers two tours to Cuba, both educational programmes which require a special license issued by the US Treasury Department.
A&K in the US had originally planned to start Cuba tours in 2011 but had to scrap the programme due to US Government regulations.
But it managed to get the license to run the ‘people to people’ educational trips and launched them in 2013.
Licenses are granted only to groups that certify that all participants will have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities between the travellers and Cubans.
