ABTA pays for climate care

Monday, 24 Nov, 2005 0

ABTA Convention special report: The climate change impact of delegates attending the ABTA Travel Convention in Marrakech will be offset in a deal with Climate Care.

The association will pay Climate Care – a company that makes reductions in greenhouse gases – to offset emissions from the flights of the 1,600 delegates.

The funds will go towards projects such as the restoration of a rainforest in Uganda and the introduction of greener energy technology to communities worldwide.

The government earlier this year urged holidaymakers to use carbon offsetting to repair the impact of their flights on climate change and committed to offsetting emissions from ministerial air travel.

Climate Care director Tom Morton said: “We are delighted that ABTA are using Climate Care for the fourth year running to offset emissions from delegates’ flights.

“ABTA is providing much needed leadership in moving the travel industry forward to face the crucial issue of climate change.”
