ABTA presidency now two-horse race

Monday, 14 Sep, 2004 0

Candidates for the role of acting ABTA president are down to two after an initial ballot recorded a tie.

Both Steven Freudmann and Martin Wellings got an equal number of votes after taking into account both first and second preferences. Votes were cast by the 18 board members of ABTA.

This whittles the contest down to a two-horse race. The candidates that were knocked out are Sandy MacPherson and John Dellaway.

The acting president will be decided in a second ballot between the two men. The role will last until ABTA's AGM on April 20 next year. After that the nominations for the new president will be invited within seven days. The acting president cannot stand for that election under current ABTA regulations.

The ballot papers were sent in the post on Monday. Ballots must be received by ABTA by 2pm on Monday 20 September. After which John Harding’s successor will be announced.
