ABTA warns after Spanish bombs
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has warned British tourists to be vigilant after Spanish beaches had to be evacuated because of a bomb scare.
Some five beaches in the Tarragona region were evacuated yesterday after a newspaper received warnings from the Basque separatist group Eta.
But ABTA says it believes such warnings sill not stop British tourists from travelling to Spain.
Head of corporate affairs Keith Betton is quoted by the online news provider Ananova as saying: “We urge everyone to be vigilant. The travel industry has to take security threats seriously.
“Hotels in Spain have stepped up their security in the light of recent Eta attacks. There was a time when anyone could just wander into a hotel. Now people doing this are likely to be challenged.”
