AccorHotels increases its UK presence

AccorHotels is to increase its presence in the UK after an agreement to manage 11 further hotels under its Mercure brand.

The commercial agreement with Amaris Hospitality Limited includes hotels in Aberdeen, Bristol, Exeter, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Daventry, Haydock, St Albans, Brands Hatch and Walton.

The re-branding will be completed by the end of this year and takes AccorHotel’s UK network to 217, 84 of which are Mercure hotels.

Thomas Dubaere, managing director AccorHotels UK & Ireland said: "The signing of this significant number of hotels further demonstrates the ability of AccorHotels to grow its presence in the UK and build on our leadership position, whilst proving our commitment to the midscale sector, as we continue to push towards our target of 300 hotels (40,000 rooms) in the UK and Ireland.

John Brennan, ‎chief executive officer, Amaris Hospitality Limited said: "Mercure are a well-known international brand for both business and leisure travellers alike and we are delighted that these hotels will now have the opportunity to carry such a prestigious brand."

Amaris Hospitality has said it plans to rebrand 21 hotels from its 89 strong hotel portfolio and invest over £100 million in the transformation and refurbishment of these hotels.

It will convert eight hotels to the Jurys Inn chain, 11 to Mercure and the Glasgow City Hotel and iconic Carlton Hotel in Edinburgh to a leading international upmarket brand in 2016.
