ACT Tourism council welcomes Australian Capital Tourism GM appointment
The ACT Tourism Council has welcomed the appointment of a new general manager for Australian Capital Tourism, with the Sydney-based Managing Director of the Canadian Tourism Commission, Simonne Shepherd, beginning at the end of July.
The appointment comes about nine months after the former head, Ross McDiarmid, resigned in the wake of funding cuts in last year’s ACT Budget.
ACT Tourism Council chairman Joseph Griffiths says it is disappointing that it has taken so long, adding, “I think there’s probably been some decisions that have had to be put on hold pending a further appointment, but to the credit of Australian Capital Tourism I think they’ve done a splendid job of holding the show together,” he said.
