Active over-50s targeted by adventure operator
Small group holiday specialist The Adventure Company has started a programme for “active over 50s”.
Rather than spending a fortnight packed onto a 40-seat bus being herded around from place to place, Prime Adventures will cater for a maximum of 16 people per trip, with the average expected to be 12.
More than 20 small group cultural journeys, walking holidays and wildlife adventures designed for the active older traveller are being offered.
Prices start at £649 per person for an eight-day Bulgarian Winter Adventure including downhill skiing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, snowmobiling and dog-sledding combined with spa visits.
A 16-day Tibet Roof of the World tour starts at £1,749, which includes a flight across the Himalayas, exploring the city of Lhasa and a journey by 4WD and traditional horse drawn cart to Everest Base Camp.
The Adventure Company managing director Matt Berna said: “We are all living longer, staying healthier and at the same time maintaining our sense of adventure.
“We have listened to the feedback from our open age programme of Worldwide Adventure trips and it is clear to us that some travellers would rather meet and socialise with those of the same age and with similar interests.
“We also offer to pair together same sex travellers to share rooms thus avoiding single room supplements which we know cause a lot of frustration; hence the creation of Prime Adventures – genuine, small group adventures, with thoughtful, added touches for the silver generation.”
