Actress Joan Collins amongst tourists forced to flee France wildfires
Holidaymakers are among at least 10,000 people who were evacuated overnight from homes, villas and campsites in the south of France.
Campers were forced to flee onto local beaches to escape wildfires blazing near Bormes-les-Mimosas in the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region.
The UK Foreign Office is advising tourists to follow the social media channels of the local fire service for regular updates.
One of the worst fires is close to the popular resort of St Tropez, where British actress Joan Collins was amongst those evacuated from villas.
Homes have also been evacuated on the French island of Corsica due to fires there.
Up to 4,000 firefighters and troops using water bombers have been trying to put out the flames since Monday, but France says the fires aren’t yet under control as it doesn’t have enough resources and it has asked other European countries for help.
An estimated 15 square miles of land has been burned along the Mediterranean coast, inland and on the island of Corsica.
Eurocamp tweeted that none of its campsites had been affected by the forest fires. It said it was in constant contact with its regional managers and would let customers know if the situation changed.
