Advantage Travel Centres has expressed its ‘disappointment’ that its former chairman, Steven Freudmann, has quit the consortium after becoming chairman of Triton.

In a statement issued yesterday, Advantage chief executive John McEwan said: “We are disappointed that Steven Freudmann has decided to end his long association with Advantage. It is a pity that he has chosen to do this through the media, rather than the recognised channels.

“Obviously we will accept his resignation, particularly as it appears Steven is to take a senior position within the Triton Travel Group.

“Triton ceased to have any value to Advantage as far back as May this year. Steven Freudmann, as chairman, was involved in a democratic and unanimous board decision that Advantage should conduct individual commercial negotiations outside of the Triton Travel Group.

“Since then we have concluded some very lucrative commercial deals with key business partners and the commercial prospects remain bright.

“We firmly believe that Advantage is strong enough to stand alone and to single-mindedly pursue a strategy that it wholly in the interests of its members.

“It is time for us to look towards the future and move on. We have our conference this weekend in Sitges where we have the opportunity to outline our positive vision for the future.

“We must now move forward. We have lots to do, there are lots of opportunities for Advantage members and we will be in the forefront of ensure that our members stand out during the difficult times ahead.

“Steven was obviously party to some commercial sensitive discussions during his time at Advantage and is bound by a confidentiality agreement. When he officially hands in his resignation we will remind of this as a matter of course. He departs with our good wishes.”
