Aer Lingus says ‘watch this space’ over Gatwick expansion

Aer Lingus has dropped a strong hint that it plans to expand its fledgling network of routes from Gatwick.

The message came as the Irish carrier completed what is described as the first stage of development at the airport with another two of its eight European routes taking off.

The airline said it was set to make further destination announcements “imminently”.

The carrier aims to expand its low cost service from Gatwick with new routes set to launch in addition to Malaga, Knock, Vienna, Nice, Munich, Faro and Zurich

Corporate affairs director Enda Corneille said: “With over 270,000 seats sold since tickets went on sale earlier this year, we’re feeling very confident, despite the current economic downturn.

“So much so, that we’re already planning to launch more new routes within the next few months.

“Customers are clearly trying us out.  Our promise of a ‘cheap and cheerful’ not ‘cheap and nasty’ experience is obviously appealing to the masses.

“We are confident that, once people fly with us, they’ll keep coming back as we continue to offer customers fantastic prices, at convenient times, with a superior travelling experience that sets us apart from our rivals.”

Corneille added: “The message is, we’ve got big plans for Gatwick, so watch this space.”
