Agency MD sets sights on return after company fall-out

Former Business Travel Management MD Adam White is eyeing a quick return to the industry following his controversial departure from the company.

White left BTM after ten years service at the end of 2005, in what sources described as acrimonious circumstances.

It came just a month before he was due to take over as chairman of the Guild of Travel Management Companies, a role he was relishing after two years as deputy.

Under Guild rules, all executives must be in active employment with a GTMC member.

Sources said White, unhappy at the nature of his departure, was taking legal action against BTM for imposing a non-compete clause which barred him from working for a competitor for 12 months.

White declined to comment on the reasons behind his departure from BTM or of any subsequent legal action.

“It is inappropriate to comment as there are a number of things going on but it shouldn’t be long before I return to the industry,” he said.

Paul Allan, chairman of Ian Allan Travel, was drafted in as GTMC chairman and made his debut address to members last week.

“I know how much Adam wanted to take on the Guild chairmanship but sadly for him that became impossible and he was forced to stand down at the last minute,” he said.
