In an age of partnering, one travel agency has reached out to its local community college to help train new agents.

Omaha-based corporate travel agency Travel and Transport is partnering with Metropolitan Community College to create an Associate in Applied Science degree with a focus on travel.

The program aims to train more than 30 travel professionals annually for entry-level positions at Travel and Transport.

"We created this program to help address the need to prepare and educate individuals for a travel-related profession," says VP Jim Winterscheid, giving students "the foundation needed to begin a career in the field of travel."

Online and classroom courses will include more than 290 instructional hours on topics such as soft skills, geography, reservation processes, and operation, plus general education courses at MCC.

Students who complete the program will be guaranteed an interview with Travel and Transport for a corporate travel counselor position.

Founded in 1946, Travel and Transport, Inc., is the fifth-largest travel management company in the United States, with locations in 38 states.
