Agents ask to shop misleading airline ads
ABTA is encouraging its members to send in examples of misleading airline advertising, following communication with the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). In a statement ABTA said: ?The OFT believes that advertising of flights exclusive of tax and non-optional charges payable on purchase breaches the Consumer Protection Act’s code of practice on price indications and is therefore misleading. The OFT is working with the Advertising Standards Authority, which has recently adjudicated against bmibaby and has now followed this up with guidance to airline advertisers to ensure compliance.? ABTA members should send examples of misleading advertising direct to the Consumer Regulation Enforcement Division, Office of Fair Trading, Fleetbank House, 2-6 Salisbury Square, London EC4Y 8JX and to the Advertising Standards Authority, 2 Torrington Place, London WC1E 7HW, with a copy to ABTA’s legal department.
