Air Astana launches first Wi-Fi enabled jet
Kazakhstan national carrier Air Astana has introduced high-speed broadband in-flight connectivity on its first retrofitted Boeing 767.
It will be expanded to a second jet in October 2017.
Air Astana has installed the Rockwell Collins cabin system, which uses Inmarsat’s Global Xpress (GX) Aviation tech.
It will be available to Business and Economy class passengers with three connectivity packages with average speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.
The light option offers 15 Mb of data, the Business option covers up to 50 Mb, and the Super option up to 100 Mb.
"One of our core missions at Air Astana is to be on the cutting-edge of technology and constantly enhance our passengers’ experience whether it’s on board or on the ground. We proved this in 2016, when we became one of the first airlines to commit to Inmarsat’s Global Xpress high-speed in-flight connectivity system with Rockwell Collins. We’re delighted the service is now ready to launch," said Andrey Gulev, manager of commercial engineering at Air Astana.
The carrier operates flights to over 60 domestic and international routes from its Astana and Almaty hubs with a fleet of Boeing, Airbus and Embraer aircraft.
