Air Astana to sponsor Kazakhstan marathon
Fast growing airline Air Astana has been named title sponsor of the first BKS Air Astana Marathon, set for September 13, 2015.
The marathon will plot a course through the Kazakhstan capital, Astana, and is being organised by the British Kazakh Society (BKS).
BKS has been organizing 7km, 10m and 21-km running events in London and the Kazakh cities of Astana and Almaty since 2009.
"Over the years, these events have grown in stature and we are delighted to accommodate the full distance this year. Runners will be able to choose to compete in either the 5km, 10km, half marathon or full marathon events," said BKS CEO Gauhar Bramley-Fenton.
Due to Air Astana’s global reach, organisers are expecting to attract runners from many countries worldwide.
Air Astana operates direct flights to numerous cities from Astana including London, Paris, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, and Beijing, along with many other destinations via Almaty.
"The event gives us an enormous opportunity to market Astana as an international destination, very much as many cities around the world have done with other sporting events," said Richard Ledger, vice president of worldwide sales at Air Astana.
