Air Canada will ground Boeing MAX jets until at least July

Friday, 20 Mar, 2019 0

Air Canada says it will keep its Boeing 737 Max 8 planes grounded until at least July 1.

That is not an indication of when the planes will be allowed back in the air, it says, but simply to ‘provide customers certainty for booking and travel.’

It has no news on when the jets will likely be cleared to take-off again.

"We are closely in contact with Boeing, Transport Canada and other regulators to understand how and when to safely reintroduce the MAX aircraft into service," airline spokesperson Lauren Stewart said.

The carrier has been one of the worst hit due to the worldwide grounding.

It has 24 737 Max 8’s in its fleet, with six more aircraft due to be delivered through April.

Air Canada has temporarily canceled some routes including seasonal flights from Vancouver to Hawaii.

Passengers have been accommodated on other routes or offered full refunds.
