Air India cuts ties with Sabre
Air India has ended its 20-year distribution partnership with Sabre Corp after failing to reach a new agreement.
The two companies had been in discussions for months.
"After a successful 20-year relationship, Air India has decided to discontinue distributing its content through the Sabre GDS. Consequently, Air India content is no longer available to Sabre-connected travel agencies," Sabre said.
"We are very disappointed that Air India decided to withdraw from Sabre. We believe that access to Sabre’s global network of travel agencies provides great value to Air India.
Sabre was Air India’s second largest GDS provider after Travelport.
In 2018 Air India took a controversial decision to appoint Travelport as its exclusive GDS provider for the domestic market.
The airline has secured a good deal with Amadeus for international routes and hopes to leverage this to snag a better deal with Sabre.
Air India and Sabre are still in talks to resurrect the partnership.
"We have received a good deal from Amadeus. We have been able to reduce distribution costs via Amadeus by almost 40% under the new contract which we are happy with," an airline official said.
