Air India pilot accused of molesting flight attendant
Air India has opened an investigation alongside a criminal inquiry by police after a female flight attendant alleged she was sexually assaulted on a flight by a colleague.
The incident took place on May 4 and led to the woman lodging an official police complaint.
Pilot Zoyeb Khan was booked and is facing charges of assault with intent to outrage a woman’s modesty under the Indian penal code.
The incident was reported to airline officials immediately after the flight from Ahmedabad landed in Mumbai and a criminal complaint to police was lodged the next day.
Local media reported the two had an altercation after lewd comments were made to the flight attendant.
"Since the matter is under investigation, we cannot make any comment. We’ll extend all cooperation to facilitate the process of investigation," Air India said in a statement.
Police also interviewed three other cabin crew members who witnessed the incident.
Lata Shirsat, senior police inspector of Sahar police station said the pilot has not yet been formally charged and the investigation is continuing.
