Air marshal ‘misplaces’ gun, causes delays at Indianapolis Airport

Flight operations at Indianapolis International Airport were impacted slightly late last week after an absent-minded air marshal managed to ‘misplace’ a loaded firearm.

The Transportation Security Administration confirmed the incident and conducted an investigation but did not disclose whether the gun was actually ever found.

Indianapolis Airport Authority said operations were slightly delayed.

"TSA is aware that a federal air marshal misplaced a weapon at the Indianapolis International Airport and is working with local authorities to recover it. While we cannot comment publicly on internal matters currently under investigation, public safety and accountability is an important aspect of our work, and TSA has conducted screening at departure gates in the terminal," said agency spokesman Mike England.

The $800 million a year air marshal program features a team of more than 2,000 active duty armed air marshals which criss-cross the US on random scheduled services.

According to the TSA an air marshal’s job is to ‘detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts.’
