Air New Zealand to trial IATA ‘vaccine passport’ on Sydney flights

Air New Zealand is trialling a ‘vaccine passport’ on some flights to Australia.

It is joining other airlines including Singapore Airlines and Emirates in using the IATA Travel Pass.

It will pilot the health app on flights from Auckland to Sydney during April.

The app securely stores data on passengers who have been vaccinated or have taken a recent Covid test.

"Once travellers have been tested and/or vaccinated, labs will securely send data to the individual’s app. It then checks requirements for travel against the data, and customers who meet those travel requirements will be given the green tick to travel," Air New Zealand said n a statement.

Air New Zealand flights to Australia allow quarantine-free travel outbound but Kiwis must isolate on their return.

"Once borders reopen, travel is going to look very different, with customers’ health data needing to be verified at check-in," said Air New Zealand Chief Digital Officer Jennifer Sepull.

"This will give customers peace of mind that they meet all travel requirements for the different countries around the world before they even get to the airport."
