Air Pacific and Expedia team up
Travel agents and consumers will be able to book competitively priced packages to Fiji thanks to an agreement announced last week between Fiji’s national carrier Air Pacific and online travel company Expedia.
Regional General Manager Australia for Air Pacific, Victor Sharan says the partnership will “enhance opportunities and not disadvantage anyone because travel agents will enjoy full commission benefits out of this venture”.
Under the agreement the airline will utilise Expedia’s Worldwide Travel Exchange private label service to provide online booking of international flights on Air Pacific from Australia to Fiji, domestic flights on new carrier Pacific Sun, hotels, car rental and destination activities.
The site is expected to be operational by the end of this year and subsequent sites will be developed for other key markets for Fiji such as the UK, North America, New Zealand and Japan.
“The idea is to create a one-stop shop,” says Sharan. “The technology will also enable us to work with our suppliers in Fiji and quickly turn around hot specials, exclusives and other promotions for the traveller.”
Managing director of Expedia.com.au, Arthur Hoffman says the new Air Pacific site will mirror all the features contained on the Expedia.com.au site. This includes deep content on hotels, virtual video tours and slide shows.
It will also allow for “dynamic packaging, delivering competitively priced solutions”. As well as the consumer site, the agreement allows for a dedicated travel agent booking site – the first in the airline’s history. In addition, an Air Pacific e-brochure on Fiji will be developed especially for agents to cover additional destination information and relevant promotions. The e-brochure will be designed so it can easily be downloaded.
Meanwhile, General Manager Private Label for Expedia, Johan Svanstrom says while it supplies private label services to more than 500 leading travel suppliers globally, this is the first for Expedia in Australia.
