Air safely agency investigates Qantas mayday incident
A second Qantas flight in as many days was forced to turn back over mechanical issues following an earlier ‘mayday’ incident.
A flight from Sydney to Fiji turned back after a ‘fault indicator’ alert.
“The aircraft landed normally in Sydney. Engineers will examine the aircraft,” a Qantas spokesperson said.
Australian Transport Safety Bureau officers are probing an incident a day earlier.
The pilot of a flight from Auckland sent a mayday call when an engine shut down.
Safety investigators are analysing the cockpit voice recorder and flight data box.
The plane landed safely on one engine and all passengers disembarked normally.
“If we uncover any critical safety issues, we will immediately share those,” the ATSB said.
