Air Seoul closing six offices in Japan
Budget carrier Air Seoul plans to shut half a dozen offices in Japan as Japan-South Korea ties remain in the doldrums.
Out of 12 offices across the country, it identified those in Hokkaido, Shizuoka, Toyama, Yamaguchi, Kumamoto and Okinawa for the chop.
The airline suspended flights to these destinations in September and has decided to close the offices indefinitely.
According to the Japan Tourism Agency, the number of South Koreans visiting Japan plunged nearly 60% in September.
Tourism has been one of the hardest hit industries since trade and diplomatic ties deteriorated earlier this year, and show little sign of improving anytime soon.
Air Seoul had operated 10 routes to cities across Japan from its Seoul hub.
Air Seoul parent company Asiana Airlines has also cut capacity and suspended routes, as have rival carrier Korean Air and Japanese carriers.
