Air traffic controller “fell asleep on the job”
A cargo aircraft reportedly had to circle over Nice airport for half an hour – because the air traffic controller on duty had fallen asleep.
According to the online news provider Ananova, the pilot of a cargo plane requested permission to land at the airport several times but received no reply from the control tower.
He then continued to circle the airport until the controller was woken by security guards, Ananova reports.
The French air traffic control provider DGAC reportedly described the case as “extremely rare”, adding that the plane had never been in difficulty and that there was no danger. An internal investigation has now begun.
