Air Transat first North American carrier to get A321 long range jets
Canadian leisure airline Air Transat is adding 10 Airbus aircraft to its fleet, becoming the first North American carrier to fly the A321LR long range jets.
The A321LRs will be secured on a 12-year lease agreement through AerCap, with delivery expected in 2019 and 2020.
Air Transat will use the aircraft on its existing transatlantic routes and vacation destinations.
The 200-seat, two class A321LRs have a flying range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km).
Airbus describes the jet as the ‘longest-range single-aisle aircraft in the world’.
"The A321neo LRs will perfectly complete our fleet of A330s and B737s. These aircraft are also an ideal solution for replacing our A310s," said Transat chief executive Jean-Marc Eustache said.
Air Transat currently has a fleet of 31 aircraft.
"This is an ideal aircraft for the North American market, and particularly for a carrier like Air Transat. It gives operators a highly efficient and affordable modern option for their transatlantic routes, and we look forward to other North American carriers following Air Transat’s example," said John Leahy, Airbus chief operating officer-customers.
