AirAsia fined again for card processing fee violation
Malaysia’s Aviation Commission (Mavcom) has imposed a second series of fines on AirAsia for continuing to charge card processing fees for bookings.
Mavcom doled out financial penalties of RM2 million each to AirAsia and AirAsia X under the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code, which came into force last year.
The airlines were fined last September RM200,000 for a first offence and now under MACPC rules, they have been hit with a 10-fold penalty for continued non-compliance.
"This is the second time AirAsia and AirAsia X have been found not in compliance with this MACPC requirement," Mavcom said in a statement.
"As both AirAsia and AirAsia X have been found to contravene MACPC again, even after the imposition of a financial penalty for their first non-compliance, Mavcom has decided to impose both airlines a penalty of RM2 million, being ten times the financial penalty."
Separately, the commission also fined airport operator Malaysia Airports (Sepang) for failing to meet customer service targets as part of Mavcom’s Airports Quality of Service Framework.
The defined operational standards cover the quality of infrastructure and airport services.
Malaysia Airports (Sepang) was fined a total of RM856,875.
