AirAsia flags China-Australia connection
SEPANG – AirAsia has launched direct daily flights to Guangzhou via Baiyun airport from the Kuala Lumpur LCC Terminal – the AirAsia group’s fourth destination to mainland China after Shenzhen, Xiamen and Macau.
Guangzhou Baiyun International airport is regarded as the third largest and busiest international airport in China and is one of mainland China’s leading commercial and manufacturing regions.
Kathleen Tan, AirAsia regional head of commercial, said, “With the 2008 Olympics around the corner and Guangzhou being a global manufacturing centre, we are confident there will be a robust demand for this route.
“We have a strong brand in southern China that we have worked hard to build over the last few years. Our low fares have stimulated new market segments and attracted many Malaysian small and medium size businesses that have growing vested interest in China.
“Conversely, we are confident through AirAsia’s low fares, we can now attract many young Chinese from the Pearl Delta region to visit Malaysia and, through our hub in Kuala Lumpur, access the Asean network and Australia via AirAsia X.” said Tan.
