AirAsia launching direct Singapore-Lombok flights
Low cost carrier AirAsia is to launch direct flights between Singapore and the Indonesian island of Lombok from early next year.
The new route will begin on 28 January 2015 and the airline is offering an introductory fare of S$79 one way for flights between 28 January 2015 and 17 January 2016 if booked by 7 December 2014.
Lombok has seen exponential growth in recent years as a tourist destination, particularly as a cheaper and less developed alternative to neighbouring Bali.
Lombok’s International Airport has recorded Indonesia’s highest growth rate in international arrivals during 2014 with a 118% increase between January-October compared to the same period in 2013.
AirAsia also announced a new route from Singapore to the historic Javanese city of Solo, due to commence 29 January 2015.
With these two new services, AirAsia will operate direct flights to 17 international destinations from Singapore.
"We are thrilled to launch these routes to provide greater connectivity between Singapore and Indonesia. These routes opening are part of our long-term commitment to promote Indonesian tourism to the world and we hope these new routes will further contribute to the development of tourism and business activities among the three cities," said CEO of AirAsia Indonesia, Sunu Widyatmoko.
