AirAsia launching KL-Batam flights
Budget airline AirAsia is adding a new Malaysia-Indonesia air link.
Starting next month, the airline will fly direct from Kuala Lumpur to Batam, Riau Islands province.
The flight will run daily from 13 March.
Batam is the most developed of the Riau islands, situated just south of Singapore.
Just 30 minutes away by ferry, Batam is highly popular among Singaporeans for weekends away.
Also many people working in Singapore live in Batam and commute due to the significantly lower cost of living.
It is also popular with Malaysian travellers.
Batam’s Hang Nadim International Airport handled about 140,000 international travellers last year.
AirAsia flies nearly three million passengers between Malaysia and Indonesia annually.
Captain Fareh Mazputra, General Manager of AirAsia Malaysia said: “This further strengthens connectivity between Malaysia and Indonesia. As one of our key markets, Indonesia continues to play an important role in our growth strategy.”
“Batam is not only a strategic gateway for business and investment, but also a vibrant destination shaped by rich cultural diversity.”
