AirAsia has come onboard as a gold sponsor of the 29th Southeast Asian Games which begins in August in Kuala Lumpur.

The Malaysian based airline group will also be the official airline partner of the ASEAN Para Games which starts the following month from September 17-23, 2017.

"It is very evident that AirAsia is determined and committed to giving back to the community via sports and I really appreciate it. Sports indeed serves as a platform to unite people and with all they’ve been doing with sports, AirAsia is very much aware of this," said Y.B. Brig. Gen. Khairy Jamaluddin, minister of youth and sports and chairman of the Malaysian Organising Committee.

As gold sponsor AirAsia will provide all air travel to members of the Malaysia Organising Committee for the Games.

AirAsia branding will also appear on all official SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games promotional materials leading up to the start of each Games.

"As a true ASEAN airline, we wholeheartedly support the biggest events that bring together the best athletes and the best athletes with disabilities in the region," said Tony Fernandes, chief executive of AirAsia Group.

"This also marks the beginning of AirAsia’s deeper, more meaningful involvement in the sports community through our ‘Dare to Dream’ platform, in which AirAsia will support potential athletes from ASEAN and from other regions to fully maximise their potential."
