AirAsia teams up with Silicon Valley startup platform
AirAsia has announced a landmark partnership with Silicon Valley based startup innovation platform Plug and Play Tech Center.
The budget airline group aims to tap Plug and Play to find and collaborate with the best startups in the travel industry.
AirAsia will work as an anchor partner of Plug and Play’s travel and hospitality programme to mentor and support relevant startups as they develop new travel sector technologies.
"We are here to help AirAsia engage with the most promising startups in the industry and bring new ideas into their business. Their expertise will be a great addition to our ecosystem and we welcome them to Silicon Valley," said Plug and Play founder and CEO Saeed Amidi.
AirAsia was an early adopter of self-service check-in services and has invested heavily in its ongoing digital transformation.
This includes the BigPay financial services app and a move to fully automated check-in and boarding which incorporates facial recognition boarding gates.
