Airbnb boasts more rooms than five biggest hotel brands combined
Home sharing leader Airbnb has announced its latest milestone, cracking the four-million barrier for global listings.
Now present in 191 countries, it has more listings than the combined total of the top five hotel brands.
The US remains its top market with 660,000 homes followed by France, Italy, Spain and the UK.
Airbnb also posted its most successful single day in its history earlier this month.
There were more than 2.5 million guests at listed properties on August 5.
"On any given night, 2 million people are staying in other people’s homes around the world on Airbnb," the company said.
There has also been significant traction on its instant booking service which confirms bookings with just a few clicks rather than the usual back and forth messaging between guest and host.
"Of the 4 million listings, over 1.9 million are instantly bookable – no hotel chain has more rooms than Airbnb has instantly bookable listings," it said.
