Airbnb cracks down on New Year’s Eve parties
Airbnb is tightening rules to discourage users from trying to book homes for rowdy New Year’s Eve parties.
It says users ‘without a history of positive reviews’ will not be allowed to make one night bookings New Year’s Eve, and it will also monitor two-night reservations that ‘may pose heightened risk for parties.’
It doesn’t affect users with positive reviews and any bookings completed before 3 December.
"This plan marks the latest of a number of recent changes to our platform to meet this specific public health moment," Airbnb said.
Airbnb has been cracking down on so-called party houses and put restrictions on certain users under 25 years old looking to book a party venue.
It follows several well-documented incidents of trashed homes and gun violence at parties.
The NYE restrictions apply to bookings made in North America, Western Europe and Australia.
