Airbnb launches local food experiences
Airbnb is getting serious about food.
It launched ‘Cooking,’ the latest category in its Experiences tours and activities division.
It plans to offer culinary classes by locals.
Airbnb says F&B themed experiences have grown 160% since 2018.
Cooking Experiences hosts will range from farmers, professional and non-professional cooks and celebrities including Prue Leith, a judge on the UK show, Great British Bake Off.
The cooking theme will also include tours of renowned food cities such as Lisbon, Florence, Mexico City and Singapore with local culinary hosts.
To mark the launch, Airbnb is searching for the world’s best home cooks.
The top 100 will be picked for a free trip to Slow Food’s University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo, Italy to train with chefs and culinary experts.
They will then have a chance to create recipes which will be included in a special Airbnb cookbook to be published in 2020.
