Airbnb tightens online security
Airbnb has strengthened online security for hosts and guests, now requiring all users to provide individual verification for every device they use.
The new mandatory measures mean users logging in on a new device will be required to verify a one-time unique code sent by Airbnb via email or SMS.
The company will also send a SMS alert whenever any changes to account settings are made so users are made aware of any potential account hijacking.
"You can take action to recover your account in the event you were not the one who made those changes," it said.
"We remain vigilant of the ways bad actors are looking to take advantage. Online scammers in particular are constantly adapting and refining their attacks," the company said in a blog post announcing the added security measures.
"While the enhancements we’re announcing today will add yet another layer of security to our users’ accounts, we always want our community to continue to be vigilant and exercise good security practices."
