Airbus ‘stacks passengers’ in new aircraft design
Airbus has reportedly designed an aircraft interior with passengers stacked on top of each other.
Its early plans include two levels of seating, with a mezzanine area replacing the overhead lockers.
The European aircraft manufacturer insisted its design would provide ‘a high level of comfort’. The upper level seats could recline as much as 180 degrees, making them suitable for the business class cabin.
In its latest application to the US Patent and Trademark Office, the European aircraft manufacturer said: "In modern means of transport, in particular in aircraft, it is very important from an economic point of view to make optimum use of the available space in a passenger cabin."
