Airbus unveils plans for see-through aircraft (see picture)

Airbus has revealed plans for see-through aircraft and in-flight entertainment powered by the heat of passengers' bodies.

The ideas are just some of the futuristic concepts being explored by the aircraft manufacturer.

Airbus said the concepts could become reality by the year 2050.

The Airbus of the future might also have:

– relaxation and work zones in business and economy cabins and a fully stocked bar for socialising.

– walls that change according to light conditions

– holographic pop-up gaming displays

– technology which allows travellers to read bedtime stories to their children back home.

The aircraft structure would allow for an 'intelligent' cabin wall membrane which controls air temperature and can become transparent to give passengers open, panoramic views.

Airbus engineering executive vice-president Charles Champion said: "Our research shows that passengers of 2050 will expect a seamless travel experience while also caring for the environment.

“The concept cabin is designed with that in mind, and shows that the journey can be as much a voyage of discovery as the destination."
