Airbus’s troubles could spur Boeing production
There’s speculation Boeing Co. could increase its lead in new airplane orders after its rival Airbus postponed deliveries.
That marked Airbus’s postponement of a new super jumbo jet for the third time in 16 months, according to news reports.
“For clients concerned about the delays in Airbus SAS’s competing A380, the 747-8 may seem like a safer option,” wrote Bloomberg News.
Boeing’s CEO James McNerney may step up production to take advantage of Airbus’s misfortunes.
Boeing is already sold out through much of 2008.
Airbus is owned by European Aeronautic, Defense & Space Co.
Jet orders set a record last year as carriers tried to meet growing demands for air travel and cargo shipments.
The jetliner market is a $60 billion-a-year business.
