Airline categories re-introduced to British Travel Awards

Saturday, 05 Apr, 2017 0

Airline categories are being re-introduced to the British Travel Awards 2017 after a gap of nearly 10 years.

They were introduced in the early days of the awards but were dropped due to lack of interest from the aviation industry.

But with the BTAs now bringing more exposure and kudos for participants – more than 1.3 million votes and opinions were cast for the 2016 awards –  they are being brought back this year.

The three new airline awards will be for Best European Airline, Best Transatlantic Airline and Best Eastbound Longhaul Airline

Nominations are now open for all the awards, which cover 73 categories

Travel companies can now apply for listing on the 2017 consumer voting form.

There will be 143 awards in total, with 35 of the awards being graded by size, enabling specialist, niche and smaller enterprises to be recognised by their customers.

Nominations are open until May 31 with consumer voting starting in July.

BTA CEO Lorraine Barnes Burton said: "The sooner travel companies get registered to be listed on the BTA nomination form the more time they have to plan their lobbying campaign to get the all important customers votes. It’s very easy to register; the winners are determined solely by the number of consumer votes received – no submissions to write, judges to impress or nerve-wracking interviews.

"Our national media partners at Trinity Mirror Solutions play a big part in extending our audience reach and we will again be working with city television station Made TV to promote voting and to televise the actual awards ceremony."

This year the award categories are as follows:

Best tour operators awards by holiday type – family, activity/sports, coach, rail, camping
Best tour operator awards by destinations
Best travel retailers awards
Best cruiselines awards
Best international hotels awards
Best Transport awards – including airlines, car hire & ferries.
Holiday add on company awards
Best UK / domestic holidays and attractions awards
