Airline passenger struck by lightning
An American Airlines passenger is in hospital after being struck by a bolt of lightning after getting off a plane.
The incident took place on the tarmac of Columbia Metropolitan Airport in the US.
The woman’s flight to Charlotte had been diverted to Columbia due to bad weather and an American Airlines’ spokeswoman said she had just disembarked when she was hit by the lightning strike.
Columbia airport spokeswoman Kaela Harmon called it a ‘freak accident’.
"It is truly the most random thing I have ever heard," Harmon said.
The woman was taken to a local hospital where she is in a stable condition
