Airline pilot pleads guilty to smuggling cash

Tuesday, 23 Dec, 2016 0
A Texas airline pilot has taken a plea deal and admitted to a charge of smuggling $195,000 in cash into the country through Newark Airport.

Anthony Warner, 55, pleaded guilty to a single charge of cash smuggling and could face five years in prison if found guilty.

He was deemed a ‘low risk’ traveler as a pre-approved member of the Global Entry expedited program.

On arrival at Newark from Mumbai on January 10 this year, the Global Entry system was down and Warner had to present himself to a customs and border protection officer.

CBP officers then discovered $195,736 in U.S. bills inside his laptop bag.

A large amount of jewelry was also found in his bags.

It wasn’t disclosed which airline Warner works for.

He is due to be sentenced in April.
