Airline worker charged with embezzlement
An airline employee has been charged for embezzlement in a lost baggage compensation scam.
Alexis Herrera is accused of stealing $263,000 from employer Allegiant Air through false pretenses.
She faces one count of theft.
From 2022-2024 she filed bogus claims for lost or damaged baggage and reimbursed herself, court documents claim.
She was able to do this as she worked as a system baggage service coordinator.
Metro police detectives said Herrera admitted to the theft.
She was fired from her job in late 2024.
Police accuse Herrera of fabricating dozens of refunds ranging from $1,000 to $4,000.
“Alternatively, Herrera used ‘dummy’ itinerary and passenger information to fabricate baggage settlement claims, using the email addresses associated with her own bank account,” police said.
Herrera is scheduled to appear in court next month.
